Norther Beaches Greens

Our Vision

The Northern Beaches is a special place. The Green’s believe the area can be a showpiece of what a happy, functioning community can be. A natural wonderland with vibrant public spaces that are protected for the enjoyment of future generations, where residents have a voice in decision making processes and all members of the community have access to the services they need. We will work towards these goals and ensure that any development is for the benefit of all the community.
The Greens believe in promoting an awareness and understanding throughout the community that all life depends on ecologically sustainable practices. We would like to see our area become a model of a no waste, renewable energy society that incorporates intrinsic and future ecological values. We will make it a Council priority to provide people oriented urban landscapes that are less congested, less polluted, safer and more sustainable.
Our public spaces lie at the centre of community life. The people of the Northern Beaches want to enjoy the outdoors; to dine at restaurants and cafes, relax in parkland and take advantage of the areas natural beauty. They want to live in communities where public space is respected, and creative and cultural activities are encouraged. The Greens on Council will work to make these simple “quality of life” issues possible.
We will act to protect public land and ensure that assets such as Beacon Hill High school and the DY Civic Centre wont be sold or developed without due consideration of the long term needs of the community and respect for the areas heritage. The Greens will; preserve public land and ensure it is used for the benefit of the local community. We will safeguard our cultural heritage protect the areas rich natural heritage and biodiversity for the future.
The Greens believe in a high level of community involvement in decisions that affect the future of the area. We support the empowerment of youth, women’s and minority groups through their involvement in the decision making process. We will seek to make Council decision making processes open, transparent and responsive to community involvement and encourage Councillor’s to act in a co-operative rather than adversarial manner.
We will work to expand Council’s services to support all sections of the community and ensure that their voices are heard. We believe in the provision of activities and opportunities to engage our young people and make them active and interested members of the community all community members should have convenient access to a range of services to improve their well being and we seek to expand and improve childcare, hospital and medical services. We will continue to call for better public transport options for the people of the Northern Beaches.
The Greens strongly support development that has a positive impact on the local community, and strongly oppose over development. We will tighten up the development controls, improve Council’s consultation processes and preserve our natural and built heritage. Every year, the major Parties accepts millions of dollars from property developers and other corporate interests in political donations. The Greens do not accept corporate donations. As a grassroots party, we believe democracy should be responsive to people not money.
